A trio I’m in, one at the slightly more experimental end of improvised music, called hymn, has just released film of a concert at Wells Maltings last year. We were accompanied by special guest violinist (& other bowings: bicycle wheel, saw) Sylvia Hallett. The show was a 50-minute composition by trumpeter Chris Dowding called the second sky, that we’d recorded in the studio a year or two back. The third trio member is Dave Ross, playing his wonderful homemade analogue electronic instrument called the drosscilator.
The film and audio were recorded live by Mike Coombs, the sound mastered by Paul Keeler, and the film processed / treated by Norwich film and audio artist Paul Thompson. Watch it below. The film was launched at a gig in the Music in the Burnhams series in Burnham Market in October 2024.
